Happy Fishermen and Flyfisherwomen

Below are the comments of some happy fly fishermen and fisherwomen who have enjoyed a day(s) on the water with me. What a great experience. I have spent a lot of time fishing salt and freshwater but this was my first time fly fishing. Was a surprise gift from my wife for our anniversary. When you meet Tom you feel like you've known him a long time. Knowledgeable, warm, engaging and very patient. In no time learned casting and was able to catch a couple of Rainbow. I recommened spending sometime on the river with Tom, you won't forget it!

Tom, I am sooooo glad I found your Web site. Thanks to you I have won the" Best Mother Of All Time" badge. I gave my son a fishing trip with you for his 46th birthday. The look on his face was priceless!! His birthday was yesterday and he still has that big ole grin. I bet he calls you today to set up a time for he and his buddies to come. I can't wait for him to meet you. I truly appreciate your getting his certificate to us so quickly. I know you went out of your way to make this happen on short notice. Again, thanks for making me look so good!

Had a great time fishing the Tuckasegee with Tom on April 12, 2012 as a first time fly fisherman. I caught 20 -25 trout that day which included the grand slam (Brook, Brown, Rainbow). What was even more important to me was learning on how to fly fish for the first time the right way. Tom was able to put me on the fish all day, and what a better way to learn than to catch fish. Thanks for a Great Fishing Trip.

While I fish solo quite a bit in the area, I 've fished with Tom twice and there will be more. Tom finds fish and Tom has a great disposition, the two most important attributes for a good guide. He's a fun guy to be around and he always has a pointer or two that helps out when I'm going solo. Also, while Tom has his "go to" spots he's always up for going off the beaten path. Our 4-9-12 trip on the Pigeon was a killer. If you're new to the area or even if you are somewhat familiar, Tom will show you a great day.

Tom - Hunter, Paul and I had a blast on my birthday fishing trip! Thanks for quickly showing us the ropes on how to fly fish, driving us to and from the spots, cooking us lunch, supplying all the equipment and most importantly getting us hooked up on some trout. The scenary was great and we had a really great time spending the day with you, you truly made the day a blast. I will recommend you to everyone I know who is looking for some great fly fishing fun in the Franklin, NC area. Thank you again, hope to see you next year.

Tom took me and two buddies out at the beginning of February and we caught a bunch of fish. Lots of little rainbows and browns. None of us were fly fisherman to start the day but by the end we were old pros. Tom had us casting and catching within a few minutes on the river. We fished the Tuckasegee to start with and then went to an awesome little spot on the Pigeon where we loaded up on lunch and fish. Tom is passionate about his fish and his art and he will put you on fish. He'll cook you lunch, show you some beautiful water and share a great day with you. We'll definitely be back to see you Tom!

I am very grateful for the special day that Tom provided for my two teenage sons and me. We had never been fly fishing before and Tom was an excellent teacher. He took time to teach us about the equipment, the casting techniques, the flies, the river and the trout. His patience and encouragement made it a very special and memorial day for my family. We caught fish, enjoyed a great lunch provided by Tom, laughed with each other and spent a day together standing in a beautiful, cool mountain river. Tom is a knowledgable guide, a great teacher and a genuinely nice person. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting a special day in the North Carolina mountains.

Tom-thanks for showing my sister and I such a great time on the river. It was my very first fly-fishing experience, but Tom was a wonderful teacher and very patient! He took his time teaching us all the proper techniques, and once we got the hang of it we headed to the river. It was amazing catching my very first rainbow trout! Just because you are a beginner doesn't mean you can't catch fish. Tom is a genuinely nice, down to earth person who went out of his way to accommodate my entire family and provided us with some good conversation. What makes him such a great fisherman is his passion for the sport and nature in general. If you are ever in need of a guide this is no doubt the guy to call. Thanks again Tom.

Tom is an excellent guide and instructor, my two sons and I had never been fly fishing. Tom has the patience to teach even the most challenging fishermen. He had us pulling trout in no time.

Dear Tom, Thanks so very much for your wonderful service in guiding my wife and myself on the Tuckaseegee River on May 25, 2011. You are professional in every way, full of knowledge about the river and how to fish it, and a very patient and comprehensive instructor. We had a spectacular time throughout the day, and were particularly pleased that with you, a full day of fishing really IS a full day. There was no shortcutting on "time on the river," that's for sure. My wife commented on our way back to the motel that it was the best day of trout fishing she ever had, and that includes many fishing trips throughout the years in the wilds of Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Alaska and several other western states. As you know, she put me to shame in the "catching" department! You are a genuinely nice guy, bright, articulate, funny, thoughtful and filled with the spirit that makes flyfishing a fun, exciting and rewarding sport. I highly recommend you to anyone who wants to fly fish, whether they are a first-timer, novice or seasoned pro. Thanks again for a wonderful day, and I look forward to meeting up with you again next time we're in the North Carolina mountains. Our best, Kurt and Dawn

Tom, Mary, Josh and I had a great time fishing with you last week. The weather turned poor the night before our day's outing and the fish either couldn't or wouldn't cooperate. You were a Gentleman in offering to cancel the entire trip without fee and went so far as to study the waters in several places, strongly advising us against difficult to impossible stream conditions. You know your fishing waters; the conditions for novice, intermediate, and pros; the right choice(s) for flies; and have new equipment to suit men, women, and youth. We decided to fish and the fish were fickle, but we still caught fish. Each of us saw some of the raw beauty of North Carolina while attempting to take some wily native trout. I caught my first one of the day hand lining the leader while relocating to a less disturbed part of the stream. That little sucker nearly jumped into my waders trying to take that hooked fly. He thought he was a whale - at least in his own mind. It was a good day and we had fun.

Tom-Thanks for a great time! I enjoyed everything you taught me and am now hooked! Went fishing on my own the following two days and was able to put my teachings to use. I highly recommend all new fly fishermen to get a guide to learn the ropes. You will learn more in one day with a guide than you will in 10 years learning on your own. If you plan to be in the Franklin/Nantahala area, Tom is the guy to call!

Tom, I really had a blast. By the time we were done, the Flyrod didn't appear so mysterious anymore. Can't wait to do it again

Yesterday was my first time to ever to hold a fly-rod. Under Tom's tutelage I had a fantastic day on the Pigeon river and caught many fish. Tom generously shares his tremendous knowledge of fly-fishing, and the river. He is easy going, good humored and very patient. Tom spent most of his time with me, as I'm a complete beginner, but also worked some with my wife who is experienced. When my wife and I got back to his beautiful rental home I began looking online for fly-rods. I'm hooked. Thanks so much Tom, Lauri and I had a wonderful time, and will be coming back so I can learn more, and you can also teach our son.

Over Thanksgiving weekend my family and I went out with Tom on a fly fishing adventure. Some of us had been fishing before and others had not, but regardless of our level of experience each of us had a blast. It was my first time and with the instruction I received from Tom I ended up not only catching multiple fish, but getting a thorough understanding of some solid fly fishing techniques. Thanks Tom, it was a fabulously fun and peaceful time on the water!

I used Tom's service recently and he took me to Raven's Fork near Cherokee. Having never fished before, Tom was concerned about my ability to cast a fly rod. He stuck with me until I got it down to at least get a fly in the water. That was the easy part, knowing nothing about fishing, I assumed that you just kept casting and you shouldn't expect to catch a fish frequently. Meanwhile fishermen all around us are catching trout! Tom was bound and determined that I catch fish that day. He changed flies, had me move to different areas of the river, all the while determined that I catch fish. Well I didn't catch a lot of fish, but the fish I did catch was apparently unususally large for the type Trout that it was for this region. I thought maybe Tom was pumping my enthusiasm after a long morning of casting and reeling, never with a fish on the line. When the seasoned Trout fishermen around us came over to look at my catch, it was confirmed that I had caught a dandy! I can tell you this. If you book your trip with Tom, and you don't catch fish, it isn't his fault, because he does everything possible to make sure you are presenting every possible option to the fish. If you get shut out, they just "ain't bitin."
