This small but charismatic town is very close to Trout fishing in Western North Carolina.

The Culasaja River comes from Highlands through the Culasaja Gap along highway 64 and ends up joining the Little Tennessee River in Franklin city limits.  The Little Tennessee River (Bass/Bream/occassional Trout) continues through town and forms Lake Emory (Bass/Bream/Carp) and thereafter the tailwater continues on into Lake Fontana. There are many pull off points to access the river for fishing and kayaking/canoeing.

Tuckasegee River: About 25 minutes
West Fork of The Pigeon River: 1 hour 15 minutes
Bradley Creek in Great Smoky National Park: About 50 minutes

Though the travel time hardly changes, the trip is always beautiful no matter what season….and the trout eat 12 months of the year.
